Davines – The leading Italian Beauty house launches their green footprint in India with the message of ‘We Care

International hair care company Davines Italy, who define sustainable beauty in every dimension, is gearing up to spread their message of ‘We Care”in India. BBlunt Salons partners with the global beauty house to spread their vision of value based sustainable beauty.  Joanne Pereira finds the integration augurs well for many good hair days and the concept of beauty in a holistic manner.

The month of June brings into focus Sustainability with its commemoration of  World Environment Day.  Befittingly Davines, leading Italian hair care company who recently announced its entry into India, reinforces its ethos of being mindful of its consumers, the environment and the community at large.  Sustainable Beauty is evidently the core of their business practice.

Davines Group Chairman Davide Bollati

Davide Bollati, Chairman, Davines Italy nudged the conscious adoption of this movement in the Indian salon industry as he demonstrated how conscious luxury was a way of life back home in Davines Village in Parma, Italy.

One of the main projects in progress right now is the new manufacturing facility in Italy, a manifesto of sustainable beauty. Davide Bollati and his family are very keen in building ‘green’ facilities; they want it to be a legacy to the world. This will be a natural next step to their involvement in sustainability since the current factory already only uses renewable energy; they invest in CO2 emission re-compensation; and have more than 20 sustainable beauty ongoing projects as part of the company daily activities.

Beauty, architecture, innovation and sustainability are the key ideas that drive his work. This year Davines celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Davide’s presence in the company.  Bollati shares with us Davine’s insightful efforts and ethics towards sustainable beauty,“Growth means something only if we can keep our integrity in what we want to represent. We aim at using our business model as a positive lever, by creating value, and awakening in all possible ways the desire to protect the environment and the people.”

The answer to what is beauty is rhetorical with Bollati. While he describes himself as a passionate dreamer with his feet firmly on the ground, his inspiration in the business is the passion he has for sustainable beauty, a combination of technology and respect for the environment that is becoming the new mantra for the Davines Group. For him, beauty is the divine inside us. Ancient Greeks linked beauty to the good. Form and content, ethics and aesthetics, it’s all related. The ingredients in the formulas, the sophistication of the packaging, the poetry behind the rituals, it is all about beauty.

The Davines ‘Sustainable Beauty’ was born in 2005. Bollati visited India to launch the brand recently. Speaking on the vision of his company he said, “With time, the ideal of sustainability that we wanted to pursue acquired more and more consistency and concreteness. From purely environmental sustainability, we have begun to embrace a more global idea of sustainability, which affects all areas of the company and aims to generate a positive impact on the ecosystem in which the company operates.”

“In becoming a B Corp, Davines has signed a Declaration of Interdependence, which establishes and reaffirms a principle that I believe has not yet been sufficiently shared and lived in today’s society. It is precisely the growing awareness of the bond of interdependence between the complexity of the actions we perform every day and the health, well-being and resilience of people and the planet that motivates us in pursuit of Sustainable Beauty. This interdependence is a fact for us today and, despite confronting the outside world, we realize that not everyone thinks like us, and nothing distracts us from the determination of being on the right path.”

“Sustainability is a path, a process, not a goal. Davines aims to increasingly commit to making its business more sustainable and circular. At Davines we feel responsible for the change we are looking for in the world. We do not want to waste our working time building a company that is unable to generate a positive impact on our world day after day. For us, growth will be just and due only if it is deserved in this direction. The growing challenges of a world that is now entirely connected and interdependent requires it.  We believe in the possibility of continually improving ourselves and the B Corp path we have undertaken is consistent with our vocation.”

In its first quarter, Davines has already established partnerships across key metros – Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai – with a rapid expansion strategy. It is currently present at top outposts of BBlunt Salons in Mumbai and Bangalore, and shall soon be available across the chain. It can also be found at select locations of salons like Bounce, Looks and Ravissant.

Founded in Parma, Italy in 1983 by the Bollati Family, Davines Group started as a research laboratory, producing high-end hair care products for renowned cosmetic companies worldwide. After a decade of honing their expertise, they began creating their own brand of Davines hair care products exclusively for salons.

The Davines community spans over 75 countries, thousands of salons and hundreds  of passionate hairdressers. Since its inception in 1993, this family-owned venture has been steadily evolving into an international lifestyle brand that strives to balance beauty and sustainability. Its philosophy is to earn profit, while creating a positive impact on society and the environment; right from product formulation and design, to company ethics and salon education.  In 2016, the company obtained the B Corporation certification, committed to transform the goal of economic growth: no longer profit for profit’s sake, but as a tool to serve the community.

Davines illustrates its philosophy not just in its products but its application in the new headquarters down to the tiniest detailing. Bollati’s two decade journey at the helm carries along giving back to humanity through his efforts of sustainable beauty and takes forward the need to spread this awareness. The village is a tangible symbol of making our world beautiful, an expression of the values the company is based on.  A touch of Davines make this world a better place.
