Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic Ceramica
Luminor is a word which already suggests luminosity and it identifies the largest family of Officine Panerai watches. The Luminor 1950 models follow the tradition of the Italian brand in the field of underwater watches designed to meet the demanding requirements of the Italian Navy. The radium-based substance initially used to make the dials perfectly visible in conditions of absolute darkness was progressively replaced by a new self-luminous substance based on tritium (an isotope of hydrogen) also invented by Officine Panerai: this was “Luminor”, a substance protected by a trademark registered on 11 January 1949 for products luminous in any form, fluorescent, phosphorescent and the like” intended particularly for military use. The great innovation which distinguishes these watches known today by the name Luminor 1950 is the device protecting the winding crown with lever which ensures excellent water-resistance for the watch, protecting it from shocks and unintentional manipulation even under the most extreme conditions. Then as now, another principal characteristic of the Luminor 1950 was the cushion-shaped case and its wide, flat bezel. Today the device protecting the crown has clearly become the unmistakable, distinctive symbol of Officine Panerai.
The new Luminor 1950 3 Days Automatic Ceramica presents again in a contemporary key many of the innovations which have made the Panerai history. The case has a strongly technical appearance of great aesthetic impact, thanks to the use of a matt black ceramic fitted with the P.9010/GMT caliber made entirely in the Panerai High Quality Watchmaking Manufacture in Neuchâtel and a power reserve of three days. The dial of the new Luminor 1950 3 Days Automatic Ceramica is black, in pure Panerai style with large luminous beige markers and the seconds counter with a small blue hand at 9 o’clock. The sandwich structure of the dial ensures optimum visibility at night and underwater, a feature which is part of the DNA of every Panerai watch. Water-resistance is guaranteed to 10 bar (a depth of about 100 metres).
The Luminor 1950 3 Days Automatic Ceramica (PAM001441) is fitted with a brown strap of natural untreated leather and it is supplied with a spare strap and a steel Screw Driver
