Ròmola Restaurant by Boca do Lobo is an incredibly modern restaurant that transformed the former 1946 garage of Gutierrez Soto’s most significant building, located in the center of Madrid, into a vibrant bakery, café and modern restaurant. The original structure of the building is recovered, creating a prime space in the city with open design at street level.
This sophisticated project can be labeled as a “marble-made tent in the galaxy” the interior design project stand out among the boring and grey cafes or restaurants in the proximities. The contrast to the overly used hydraulic tiles or red ceramic bricks, the architecture and interior design team applied bright colors, design furniture, and noble materials all over the space
Responsible for the design project, Andrés Jaque worked with a small number of super-qualified marble manufacturers, leather upholsterers, metal benders and chrome-platers, rare-wood panels and artisan varnishers to transform completely the restaurant.
This condition of the marbles is registered by a number of technologies attached to it, such as the glass fiber and resin reinforcements, articulated anchoring systems, intended to render marble as a sort of “super marble”, capable not only of resisting compression but also traction.
In what has been a unique engineering challenge, the project takes this capacity to its limits, by creating a super “super marble” self-standing tent. The tent accommodates the customers’ tables and allows other uses including cooking to being organized in a C-shaped periphery around it.
