The ‘Weekly Watch’, by Priyanka Sippy features The New PanoMatic Luna by Glashütte Original
The New PanoMatic Luna From Glashütte Original is a stunner. Located in the Saxon town of Glashütte, this historic watch manufactory was founded in 1845. Glashütte Original produces up to 95 % of all movement components as well as the dials in-house and can boast of the highest levels of German watchmaking.
The new PanoMatic Luna from Glashütte Original is feminine and striking, depicting the strength of a woman as well as her femininity. In a beautiful shade of lilac, this is a limited edition of 25 pieces. The dial is certainly eye catching, handcrafted in mother-of-pearl, with differently sized Arabic numerals in lilac, forming a heart in the center and reaching out to the edge of the dial. The heart is framed by nine rod indexes, comprising 18 brilliant cut diamonds. Printed from the back of the dial, the color shines through beautifully, with the elegant shimmer of the mother-of-pearl which has been fashioned from the inner layer of sea shells. To protect the razor-thin material from breakage it is mounted on a thin disc of German silver, all made in the watchmaker’s own dial manufacturing in Pforzheim.
The moon phase display is striking, with an intricately crafted moon disc, which is also made in Pforzheim. Two silver-colored moons are first cut out with a milling tool, their surfaces polished with a diamond milling tool, bestowing them with an ethereal brilliance. The beautiful detail of tiny hearts scattered in a night sky are visible on close inspection.
In line with the classic Pano style, the hour, minute and small second are positioned off-center in the left half, and Original Panorama Date adorn the right side. The bezel frames the stainless-steel case with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds, while a purple alligator leather strap perfectly sets of the dial.
The movement is the Calibre 90-12, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal case back. The duplex swan-neck fine adjustment from Glashütte Original, a unique feature of the brand, along with numerous other traditional elements of Glashütte watchmaking. The three-quarter plate, blued screws and the characteristic Glashütte decorative finishes, are classic Glashütte. The movement has a power reserve of 42 hours.
This limited-edition PanoMatic Luna is another pièce de résistance for the brand’s Woman Collection.
